Great Pyrenees with torn out throat

Organized by Big Fluffy Dog Rescue

Final Count
She is continuing to improve (a face shot is coming, but she's scared of the camera and we didn't want to stress her out) and realize that her life as taken a major turn for the better.

Our final count for her bill is going to be right about $3000. She will need two more surgeries, one more to continue repairing her injury, and she'll also need dental surgery to remove her broken/absessed tooth and repair the damage.

We've reached the initial goal, and now, comparatively, we don't have much farther to have her whole bill taken care of.

We can't express how thankful we are that so many people have stepped up to help this poor dog, and it looks like it will all be worth it. She's not totally out of the woods yet, but to have survived and be improving after this shows that she has an insurmountable will to live.

Tentatively Good News
She made it through surgery and is recovering in specialized foster care tonight.

After surgery

She had 38 stitches on her chest, has punctures all throughout her body, and she broke a tooth (we're guessing trying to defend herself) which has exposed root and has abscessed. The risk of a systemic infection is too great to do anything about that without trying to get all her other infections under control first, so she is now on very strong anti-biotics and pain killers.
We are optimistic that she will make a full recovery. To have survived this long is a testament to her will.
She will have to go in for major dental surgery soon, but for now, she is peacefully resting, indoors, safe, warm, and loved.

We Need Help to Help Her
Time is of the essence for this poor dog who was brought to us after being severely injured in what appears
to be a predatory attack, most likely by coyotes. The wound is huge (more than 18 cm) and we have her in
surgery now trying to save her life. This wound is on her throat so whatever did this to her was quite large
and she has multiple punctures and lacerations across her body. The vet (not our normal vet) has given us
48 hours to raise the funds to care for this dog, but has begun surgery upon our promise to pay.
The estimate for her care exceeds $2,200. We are a 501c3 rescue and all donations are tax deductible.
We will follow up this evening with more details. We will need all the help we can get with this one
as I can promise you this is not a situation that was on my radar when I got up this morning.
Thanks so much. -Jean Harrison
