Flood relief for dogs in Nashville

Update on the Flood Dogs
Here are a few stories of flood dogs we have taken in thus far. Thankfully Nashville hasn't been overrun with strays and animals that were left behind, most people got their pets out with them or took in any loose dog they found. But, many, many people are unable to keep their beloved pets. They have lost their homes, all their posessions, and many, their jobs. All they want now is to know their dog(s) will be well cared for. Most of these dogs still need vetting, and many were exposed to flood waters and have varying health problems from that.

Luke and Tabitha are a perfect example. They were very well cared for and loved pets. Their owners were horribly distraught to have to give them up. We promised to make sure they went to a wonderful home, and that they stayed together. They're both beautiful, wonderful yellow labs. They were in good health, just due for everything, and Tabitha needed to be spayed. Their foster is keeping both of them, and they now have an exceptional home. The first happy ending for the flood dogs.

But, not all dogs were so lucky. He are a few stories of dogs left to fend for themselves, either before, or during the flood.

Stevie is a precious, 5 month old, Blind puppy, found all alone in a park that flooded very badly. He is going to be an expensive puppy and has his own chip-in set up. For his full story, please see here, http://bigfluffydogs.chipin.com/stevie

Gaia is a great dane/lab mix puppy. Just a baby, only 3 months old, and already living on a chain. She was found, 4 days after the flooding, standing in a foot and half of water. If she wasn't so tall, she'd have drowned. Her owners were neglectful to begin with, and didn't care whether they got her back or not. So, now, as soon as her vetting is completed, she's heading to a wonderful home in MA.

Moose is an awesome and gorgeous pit who was found the day after the flooding, but he was obviously a stray to begin with. He was a good 20 pounds underweight, and not that big of a dog to begin with at only 9 months old. The woman who found him looked for owners, but of course, she didn't find any. She couldn't bare the thought of taking him to animal control, they don't adopt out pits, and he'd surely have been euthanized there. So, we took him in, we'd said we weren't going to limit our flood dog rescue to certain breeds, we would take whoever needed us, and he certainly did. He is an awesome puppy, great with other dogs, cats, and kids, but after everything he's been through, understandably, he's a bit clingy

Wade was found after the flooding, and everyone though we'd find owners. He had a collar, was a good weight, was housetrained, and knew a few commands, all at 7 months old. But, 2 1/2 weeks later, still no sign of anyone looking for him. He was obviously someone's dog at some point, but may have been dumped after the flooding when his home was destroyed???

Lila was found the day after the flooding. She followed good samaritans and their dog home from the park (the same one Stevie was found in). There are a lot of stray dogs that live in that park, and where they stay was flooded, so, they were scattered and some got the guts up to approach people. Lila is one such dog. She was and still is, very skittish, but she's coming around. She'd obviously never been indoors, but warmed up to the idea quickly. She is still much more comfortable around other dogs than people, but she'll come around with time.

Pebbles was another chained dog who lost her home due to the flooding. She is heartworm positive and has her own chip-in page. For her full story, please see here, http://bigfluffydogs.chipin.com/pebbles
